2 Tim 3.16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Moral Controversies That Have No Right to Exist

Abortion

The controversy in our national population regarding the issue of abortion has existed in this country for at least a few generations.

[The fundamental issue is the biblical recognition of the human life growing in the womb. To the careless, lustful, irresponsible couple who created that life, abortion represents their opportunity to walk away from their sin (at least in their mind—it will be different in the judgment) and pretend that it never happened. Both careers and life plans can proceed as planned without all that messy responsibility for caring for the life they created. And, best of all, they can do so again for each “unplanned” pregnancy! #SARC

The only problem in this hellish thinking is that a developing human life was murdered in the process.

I am not ignoring the pregnancies which result from rape or incest! In the context of abortion, those cases are very rare—a few percent at the most. This still does NOT justify abortion; those developing infants could be placed in loving, adoptive homes for a couple truly wanting to adopt an “unwanted” infant.]

The liberal/left side believes that abortion is merely a woman’s “right to choose” whether her unborn child should live or die. Frequently, this is expressed as “the government should have no authority over the woman’s body”. They absolutely avoid the use of the term “murder”, preferring various euphemisms instead such as “terminating” and “right to choose”. Those more “clinical” in nature refer to the developing human as a “clump/lump of cells” in their damnable attempt to dehumanize the fetus and their sin.

Another aspect is that the woman desiring the abortion recognizes that her life will be permanently and dramatically altered so she instead seeks a medical intervention because the intent of the sexual relations was pleasure rather than the creation of a child. She had career plans that would have to be abolished, or at least radically limited and/or altered, should the pregnancy continue.

The conservative/right side believes that abortion is murder, a wanton disregard for the miracle of life.

[Consider also that in some states, the murderer of a pregnant woman is charged with two murders: the woman and her child. (Why this is not a federal statute is baffling.)]

I don’t here intend to prove the fact that the unborn child is “human”. If the developing infant grows to delivery, it is always true that he/she grows to be a human person. There has never in the history of the human race been an exception to this simple rule. Any argument to the contrary is patently foolish, doomed to fail and foolishly desperate.

[Nearly two millennia ago ancient King Solomon spoke this divinely inspired proverb:

Ecc 10.2
A wise person’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish person’s heart directs him toward the left.

This ancient truth enables us to develop this aphorism regarding the political left:
A person is not a fool because he/she is on the left; a person is on is on the left because he/she is a fool.

Even the casual observer of American culture demonstrates abundantly this simple truth. This is the reason that our leftist politicians are so hypocritical, liars, irrational and destructive: they are fools as defined by our Creator!]

These are points which nearly every person in this country has heard for most, if not all, of their lives and I don’t intend to relitigate the arguments pro and con. Rather, the purpose of this article is to demonstrate from the Scripture that the controversy over abortion should not exist in the first place!

Abortion is murder and subject to the full wrath of the Almighty. Period.

If the murder of a human life is wrong (and the Scriptures teach that it is), then abortion (the murder of the unborn human life) is clearly wrong as well.

The legal notion of capital punishment was established after the flood during the time of Noah (and therefore predates the Ten Commandments). Remember that the LORD brought the flood because of the sin of mankind:

Gen 6.5
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

It is interesting that it was not just man’s active wickedness, but the intent of his wickedness that brought about the LORD’s wrath upon the people of the earth. That wickedness had grown steadily and universally since the murder of Abel by Cain.

Gen 4.8
Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Look again at the language that the LORD used of that murder:

Gen 4.9-10
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.”

The “witness” of the murder of Abel was his blood (though how that murder was committed is not detailed).

The LORD’s perspective is that murder is the “shedding of blood” regardless of the mode.

[This is an important aspect of the argument below.]

The reason for the statement above is here:

Lev 17.11a
For the life of the flesh is in the blood …

Lev 17.14
“For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.’”

[It also is clear from the OT that because the “life of the flesh is in the blood”, the blood is also the foundation of salvation and the reason the Lord Christ had to die for sinners.]

This is the reason that the LORD did not detail a method of murder in the case of Abel. Rather, the act of murder is comprehended in the simple phrase “whoever sheds man’s blood…” in the text below. (Note the juxtaposition of “life”, “lifeblood” and “blood”):

Gen 9.4-6
Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man’s brother I will require the life of man.
Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood shall be shed,
For in the image of God
He made man.”

A man was to be put to death because he shed "innocent" blood.

[As you’ll see in the context of the citations below, the term “innocent” is applied to those who had not committed any capital crimes and were therefore executed wrongly. Additionally, you’ll see that those who wrongly executed the innocent were themselves murderers and deserving of the penalty of death.]

Exo 23.7
Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty.

Deu 19.10
So innocent blood will not be shed in the midst of your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance, and bloodguiltiness be on you.

Deu 19.13
You shall not pity him, but you shall purge the blood of the innocent from Israel, that it may go well with you.

During the time of Jeremiah, the LORD pronounced this judgment against national Israel because they sacrificed their own children (the "innocent") to idols:

Jer 19.3-5
... ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Behold I am about to bring a calamity upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle. Because they have forsaken Me and have made this an alien place and have burned sacrifices in it to other gods, that neither they nor their forefathers nor the kings of Judah had ever known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter My mind;

There is no difference between the great wickedness of that ancient generation of the Jews in the burning (murdering!) of their own children and the "modern" medical murder of nearly 1 million unborn infants per year! Both are equally damnable and culpable.

The later example of Manasseh (king of the Southern Kingdom for 55 years) is very clear: Manasseh shed innocent blood:

2 Kin 21.16
Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin with which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord.

2 Kin 24.3-4
Surely at the command of the Lord it came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the Lord would not forgive.

As you can see in these citations it was Manasseh’s shedding of innocent blood which unconditionally brought the LORD’s judgment upon the Southern Kingdom in 586 B.C. which rendered Israel a non-nation until the late 1940s. You may be sure that any nation which follows in his footsteps will likewise be judged.

Without any legitimate controversy, it is not possible that the unborn infant could commit a capital crime and is therefore the most “innocent” of people.

[This legal and moral fact would be obvious to anyone in whom spiritual understanding is active; conversely, it is not surprising that the justification of abortion is the position of those who clearly have no spiritual insight, namely the lost sinner.

The fact that our Supreme Court would provide “legal cover” to those who murder the unborn are clearly themselves without spiritual understanding, incapable of making the most obvious of moral decisions and are culpable for the abortions which take place daily in great numbers. The SCOTUS enabled the further opening of the door and invited divine judgment upon our nation.

Those SC "Justices" who voted in favor of abortion and are now dead understand, from the depths of Hades, the enormous national sin they enabled!]

[EDIT May 2023: Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, it is even more obvious just how murderous our generation is as abundantly demonstrated in the protests that took place in 2022. You may be sure that the Almighty has taken notice and is preparing the judgment of our nation and world for the sin of rampant abortion.

Witness also the number of states that passed legislation to legalize abortion up to the moment of birth, and in some cases, after birth.]

There is another detail about the evil of abortion: deflection, namely, the obscuring and sidestepping of a fact. Let me illustrate the concept from a well-known OT example: the murder of Abel by Cain.

Gen 4.10
Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper? He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.

Notice that instead of confessing his sin and seeking forgiveness, Cain deflected: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Cain attempted to sidestep his incredible sin with spectacular arrogance against the LORD.

Abortion advocates use a similar tactic; they don’t refer to abortion as murder, rather, it is a “woman’s right to choose”, a "woman's right over her own body", or a woman’s “right to terminate” her child. These are the most generous of euphemisms, to be sure.

[I don’t pretend to be a psychologist, but I assume their deflection is at least a self-defense mechanism; if they admitted the full gravity of their sin they would be forced to admit that they are murderers, guilty themselves of a capital crime and worthy of death.]

Long ago, the prophet Jeremiah recorded the LORD’s word concerning the people of Israel of his day:

Jer 4.22
“For My people are foolish,
They know Me not;
They are stupid children
And have no understanding.
They are shrewd to do evil,
But to do good they do not know.

The “controversy” of abortion should not exist: abortion is murder, and the LORD declared long ago that murder is wrong! It is only the spectacular arrogance of man that such a hellish practice should be elevated to have any presence in the national consciousness, much less elevated to a “controversy” with millions of proponents!

Judgment is coming.
