The Right Hand

Rev 5.1
I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne ...

The phrase “right hand” is used well over 100 times in the Bible. There are several strongly related uses (along with a few miscellaneous uses as well), as enumerated below.

Psa 110.1,5 [cf., Mat 22.44; Mar 12.36; Luk 20.42]
The LORD says to my Lord. “Sit at My right hand
Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” …
The Lord is at Your right hand;
He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath.

Used generally to indicate a position of privilege, in contrast to the left hand.
Gen 48.13-14, 17-18
Joseph took them both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right, and brought them close to him. But Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands, although Manasseh was the firstborn. … When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him; and he grasped his father’s hand to remove it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn. Place your right hand on his head.”
Psa 45.9
Kings’ daughters are among Your noble ladies;
At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.
Psa 110.1,5
The LORD says to my Lord.

Used generally to indicate a position of power, authority, and the ability to overcome one's enemies.
Jdg 5.26
She reached out her hand for the tent peg, And her right hand for the workmen’s hammer. Then she struck Sisera, she smashed his head; And she shattered and pierced his temple.
Psa 89.25
I shall also set his hand on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
Psa 89.42
You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have made all his enemies rejoice.

I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. … And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

Used specifically to indicate the Lord's unique and ultimate power and authority.
Exo 15.6
Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power,
Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.
Deu 33.2

He shone forth from Mount Paran,
And He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones;
At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them.
Psa 21.8
Your hand will find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
Isa 41.10,13
‘Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand,
Who says to you, ‘ Do not fear, I will help you.’
 
Used specifically to indicate the Lord's ultimate holiness, grace, power, protection and trustworthiness.
Psa 16.11
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
Psa 17.7
Wondrously show Your lovingkindness,
O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand
From those who rise up against them.
Psa 18.35
You have also given me the shield of Your salvation,
And Your right hand upholds me;
And Your gentleness makes me great.
Psa 20.6
Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
Psa 44.3
For by their own sword they did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence,

Used to indicate the position of someone trusted.
Psa 16.8
I have set the LORD continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
 
Used to indicate the position of someone from whom help comes.
Rev 1.17
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “ Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last,
 
Used to indicate the position of someone swearing an oath.
Rev 10.5
Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven,
 
Used to indicate the position of someone subjugated to another.
Rev 13.16
And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
